Calculating paint required
-
We encourage you to take a few minutes to calculate the right amount of paint you will need to complete your project to avoid a return trip to the store.
We show you below how to calculate the amount of paint you will require:
- Measure the surface area to be painted
- Divide by the spreading rate as indicated on the packaging of the paint to be used or in the product technical data sheet
- Multiply by the number of coats you plan to apply
Once you have all the above information, you can calculate the amount required as follows:
Surface area to be painted x Number of coats
Spreading rate of the paint
Example:
Surface area: 25m2
Spreading rate: 10m2/litre
Number of coats: 2
Amount of paint required: 25m2 x 2 = 5 litres
10m2/LNote:
- Porous, rough and textured surfaces (e.g. rough casting) will require approximately 40% more paint.
- Do not treat with a whitewash undercoat. Since whitewash has no binding properties, it can adversely affect paint adhesion.
